Black Ash Basketry

I began in the 90s with a simple class on basket making where I made my first pack basket.  From that point, I researched the use of black ash in making trapper baskets and I was hooked. I found a source of black ash and began pounding for splints!

 

From that point, I began building a variety of pack baskets and a variety of various other styles.

After a long hiatus, I have begun to dive back into the craft.  I have access to a good supply of black ash and I have harvested a few logs and I am beginning to find the best procedure for gathering the splints.  I will be documenting this over the next year.
